The Most Common Living Room Design Mistakes
After completing 500+ projects across Indore, we’ve noticed certain design mistakes come up again and again. Here’s what to avoid.
Mistake 1: Oversized Furniture
Many families buy the biggest sofa they can find, which overwhelms the room. In a standard 3BHK living room (240–300 sqft), a 3-seater sofa with two single chairs works better than an L-shaped sofa that dominates the space.
Mistake 2: Single Light Source
A single ceiling fan light creates harsh shadows. Layer your lighting — ambient (false ceiling cove), task (reading lamps) and accent (wall sconces or LED strips).
Mistake 3: All Furniture Against Walls
Floating furniture arrangements create better conversation zones. Pull your sofa 18–24 inches away from the wall to create depth and balance.
Mistake 4: Ignoring Vastu
In Indore, Vastu compliance is not optional for most families. Incorrect placements can be remedied with colour, mirrors and symbolic elements without structural changes.
Mistake 5: No Feature Wall
A bare wall behind your sofa is a missed opportunity. A textured panel, wallpaper or stone cladding feature wall instantly elevates the entire room.
